Installations

My newest installation has its own page – the Wabi Sabi Lounge, which I encourage you to check out.

From 2019 – 2021 I worked with glass.  First was a permanent installation at the East Jesus Outdoor Museum in Slab City / Niland, CA.  East Jesus was created by my late friend, Charlie Russell, and the folks who carry on his work there invited me to do a piece.  It’s called “Breakable” and features bowling pins & balls surrounding a large assemblage of thrift store glass objects.

Then I made two glass cityscapes.  The first was inspired by the Phillip Glass opera, “Akhnaten,” about the Egyptian Pharoah who married Nefertiti.  The second cityscape is titled “Rosewater,” named after the Afro Futurist Sci-Fi trilogy.

Also during this period, I made installations using “gators” – those tire remnants you see along the freeway.  Two pieces of this series were permanently installed at the Art Car World Museum in Douglas, Arizona.  That installation is titled “Glitter Gators” because rhinestones were embedded into the tire treads.

Please see the slide show of images from the glass and tire installations.

I have always experimented with the concepts of fences, walls, windows and doors.  I like grouping my assemblages into configurations and have had some fun commissions to do just that.  Pictures of those are below the slide show.

One day, maybe I’ll get to expand on this idea and create an expansive environment like Noah Purifoy’s amazing Joshua Tree compound.  One day . . .
