On the Driver’s side I’m continuing the “shiny” & birch / aspen wood aesthetic that I started with the “Open Road” hubcap. The idea was to sort of emulate and/or transmogrify classic car trim.
Where I live in Reno, people plant these white birch & aspen trees, but they don’t do well in the high desert. Consequently they’re cut down and pretty white & black branches are easy to find. These are cut in half and tipped with reflective tail light plastic.
Using wood on ArtCars is tricky because it’s relatively fragile. All the bones and wood on Frigo are covered in clear silicon – basically a rubber coating – to protect them. Normal resins don’t work as well on porous material.
